APPRAISAL

downloads

A national system of appraisal for GPs was introduced on 1 April 2002. All principals should have been appraised by 1 Sep 2003 and non-principals by 1 Sep 2004. GP Appraisal is the responsibility of the PCT with whom the doctor is listed and will be conducted by trained appraisers employed by the PCT.

The Deanery currently has a limited role in GP appraisal but is developing a GP Appraisal Support Service and is talking with the PCTs and WDCs about its future roles which include:

Providing Support for Appraisers
Providing Support & Training for PCT Officers responsible for Appraisal
Standard Setting and Quality Assurance of the Appraisal Process

THE DEANERY

The Deanery is acting chiefly as a focus (see the menu on the left!):

  • Maintaining a contacts database of those involved in appraisal across the Deanery
  • Collating and sharing examples of good practice
  • Running an annual symposium on Appraisal and other local events

We have a Consensus Statement of good practice which we believe all involved should aspire to (see downloads below).

However, each of the three WDC areas provide support and training by different means for historical and technical reasons so the Deanery too has three appraisal sections to match:
