School of General Practice East of England Deanery
The School of General Practice is based at the Ida Darwin Site.
It has formed following recommendations from PMETB that specialist
training programmes should be the responsibility of training schools.
The school is responsible for the recruitment, training, quality
assurance and continued professional development of all trainees
and General Practitioners in Essex , Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire,
Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
Its board consists of The GP Associate Directors, Representatives
from the specialist training programmes, PCTs , RCGP and LMCs,
Tutors and Programme Directors.
The Head of the School is the GP Director, Arthur Hibble and
it is to be chaired by Simon Downs. Each county is represented
by a patch Director (and patch administrator). There are two hundred
and eighty training practices, seven hundred and twenty trainees,
and fifty one course organisers. In addition we have forty sessions
of GP tutor time and they will be liaising with PCTs to ensure
relevant continuing professional development.
We collaborate with other organisations who have an interest
in the development of General Practice. These include The Universities
of Cambridge, Luton, East Anglia, Anglia Ruskin and the postgraduate
school at Herts and Beds as well as PCTs and Hospital trusts.
Our overall Aim is to Ensure the Delivery of High Quality Patient
care in the NHS by:
- Delivering high quality education for general practice trainees
- Supporting good education for and continuing development
of established GPs
- Supporting GP educators
- Facilitating development of multi-professional education
within primary care.
- Facilitating and fostering educational research
