The purpose-built Postgraduate Centre
is located in Turner Village Hospital and is now two years old.
There are excellent audio-visual aids which include a large-screen
video projector, and interface to this for IBM personal computer-compatible
machines for computer generated presentations.
There are basically six SHO posts per year allocated to the Vocational
Training Scheme. Three begin in February and three in August.
They are advertised twice a year in the BMJ, in March and September.
Short-listing is done by the Course Organisers, and interviewing
by them and by two or three Consultants who contribute to the
scheme. Interviews are usually informal, and spread over half
a day, and include a visit to a training practice. We have a varied
range of Training Practices on offer, which run from single-handed
seaside to 5 partnered urban and everything in between!
Colchester lies only 50-minutes by train from London, in countryside
made famous through the paintings of John Constable. Stansted
airport is one hour away, the ferries of Harwich to Europe 30
minutes. The coast is within 30 minutes, with access to excellent
beaches and sailing. The town still has a friendly market town
feel to it, steeped as it is in its Roman history. The shops and
leisure facilities are second to none.
