Training for General Practice

East of England Deanery has no mountains on offer but it does have a vast coastline, small cities, fenland skies, London fringes, rolling farmland and quiet villages.

We provide general practice vocational training (GPVT) for about 200 prospective GPs each year in Nineteen Vocational Training Schemes which are as varied as their surroundings.

All the Schemes offer different combinations of training with a growing number offering up to 18 months in general practice and innovative training opportunities. Most host 'self-construct' registrars who are designing their own package of training and we also offer opportunities for flexible (part-time) training.

For each August entry we also offer 4 posts (2 at Cambridge, 2 at Norwich) on an extended scheme of 4 years which offers full GP training plus a year integrated with Academic General Practice.

Posts are available for any medical graduate who is or can expect to be on the Full or Limited list of the General Medical Council at the time of commencing training.  Doctors with limited registration can now also undertake training in general practice, as can doctors who have permit free training status.

If you are interested in us then your next steps are:
check on our Vacancies
visit the Schemes' websites (and contact the Course Organisers)
have a look at our Prospectuses
and then apply on-line through the national system !
