Introduction
Our method of recruitment
selection is a competency-based process that will allow applicants to
demonstrate their abilities and suitability. This is an established
and well-researched process of selection using modern methodology that
enhances the delivery of equal opportunities and diversity aspects compared
to the previous interview process.

If you are successful
at short listing, you will be invited to attend the Assessment
Centre. The selection Assessment Centre comprises a number
of well-developed assessment tools, which provide a more accurate
prediction of future work performance than previous 'static' interviews.
Each candidate will be asked to attend an assessment consisting
of a simulated patient surgery, a written exercise and a group
exercise. Assessors mark candidates' work throughout the
day and a detailed picture of the candidates' underlying skills
and abilities is produced. This has been shown to increase
accuracy, validity and fairness. We use standardised rating
scales, and checklists, to optimise objectivity and our assessors
are trained and their performance is monitored.
The venue is The
Rowley Mile Racecourse at Newmarket |

Finally...
You may like to note that many GP Deaneries have
adopted a similar method of selection, and their experience from candidates
who have passed through this process during the last five years has
been very positive. One of the significant advantages of this
process is that information gained from the selection process can be
shared with the educational supervisors of the successful candidates
to enhance their educational experience and personal learning.
It will also be available to unsuccessful candidates, to improve feedback
on their performance to allow them a clearer idea of their developmental
needs.
