Certification

On 30 Sep 2005 the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) became the competent authority for certifying that a doctor is eligible to apply to a PCO for admission to a Performers List. The Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice (JCPTGP) no longer exists.

PMETB offers two routes to certification:

  • Article 10 - results in a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). This is the normal route for doctors completing approved courses of GP training offered by a UK Deanery.
  • Article 11 - results in a Statement of Eligibility for Registration (SER). This is the route for everyone else.

All the day-to-day practicalities of assessment prior to certification, for both routes, will be dealt with by the Certification Unit of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)

You should download the current (26 Oct 05) Deanery Guidance on Certification which explains both routes, provides advice and lists of contacts, and tells you about the fees which are now payable. Note that this document may change a fair bit during 2005-2006. Make sure you always use the latest copy.
